We received Sylvester and the New Year to read and review.

When the book came through the post I gave it straight to Miss C who wanted to read it straight away as she loved the picture on the front cover. Miss C wondered whether the man on the front was Father Christmas or Jesus! So to find out  Miss C snuggled down with Nanny E and listened to the story. Normally when books are quite long Miss C gets a little bit fidgety but she really listened to the story as she loved following the picture

Inspired by a tale told by German poet Eduard Mörike over one hundred years ago, this story takes the reader on a magical journey as Sylvester travels by mystical moon horses to Earth, delivering the New Year and returning the Old Year back to be rejuvenated by the River of Life.

Miss C loved the illustrations which are beautiful her favourite part was when the horses flew to the magical garden.

We really like this book and it is a firm favourite to read at bedtime.

We have been given two gift packs of books which include Sylvester as well as Sad Tales for Me and The Witch and the Dog to give away.

Sranrom products to help relax tired mums. By Nana Cez

I had the most wonderful opportunity to review this superior range that has been designed to promote a sense of inner calm.

The candle was handmade in Thailand and had a sensuous aroma and soothing light that brought immediate tranquillity to my home.

There are 5 delicious scents in the Mindful Living collection. Each one has been carefully thought out. The candle I tested was called Consideration on the top of the candle were the words –

The words we speak should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.

The aromas were a heady blend to refresh a tired mind- an aroma of basil, lime, vertiver and mandarin. It was divine.

I would highly recommend this range and am considering purchasing another candle from

Sranram Awakening Vitality Bath and Massage Oil

Tired muscle soothing massage oil. This oil was divine, everything about it was perfect. The aroma was out of this world.

The essential oils lemon grass and kaffir lime leaves combined with an exoticmixture of rice bran oil sesame seed oil, olive oil and sweet almond oil soothedthe dryness of my skin. Left me feeling calm and very relaxed.

What I liked best of all it was 99.5% naturally derived.

It left me feeling that I was completely pampered

Singing In The Rain Review

We often visit london as we live so close and we love the theatre and we find london guide a great way of finding tickets and hotel to all the West End Shows.

We were given 2 tickets to see the new show Singing in the Rain, here is what we thought.

The costumes were lovely, the ensemble girls especially had some lovely little dresses and Scarlett Strallen who played Kathy had some beautiful gowns!
The set was very cleverly designed, the water that they danced in and they poured onto the actors was obviously a real highlight to the performance but also the fact they showed the black and white movies which appeared to be on a large projector was fab!

I thought the cast were wonderful, I especially enjoyed Daniel Crossleys performance as Cosmo, the number “make em laugh” was especially brilliant! He was a great dancer and singer with very good comedic skills! Scarlett Strallen was very lovely as Kathy, she danced and sang it beautifully and worked really well with Adam Cooper who played Don Lockwood, again his performance was great, wonderful dancer and to my surprise a great singer too! His solo of “singing in the rain” was great, although I don’t think the people on the first few rows would agree as they were soaked!!! I have to also mention Katherine Kingsley who played the the role of Lena Lamont, she was fabulous very very funny and a very very annoying voice!!!

The whole show was wonderfully put together with great choreography and a great cast! The highlight has to be the finale of “Singing in the rain” where the whole cast are back on stage complete with umbrellas, hats and a lot of rain!!!! A brilliant night at the theatre!

Cewe Photobook

I love creating photo books. For me I have to admit I tend to go for companies who have really easy programmes to use as I am not to good on the computer. Cewe asked if I wanted to try and make one of their photo books so I gave it a go.

First of all I had to download the software which I found easy enough, choosing which photos to upload was probably the most difficult part of the whole process as I couldn’t decide which one to use, in the end I decided just to do a photo book of the past year. Once the photos were up loaded I chose to enter the pictures in automatically and then just realigned and tweaked the photos to how I wanted them to be, for example zooming in on one of the pictures.

I loved the fact that you could put a photo on the front of the photo book. The turn around on the photo book was great as it came within a week of ordering.

I would recommend Cewe to order a photo book and it would make a great present for mothers day or even an alternative Easter gift.

Gift Ideas from Boots this Mothers Day

I love receiving smellies and one of the places I often go to to buy presents is Boots. This Mothers day they have lots of fabulous products for your mummy!

I was sent a few items to review from their ranges

No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Body Serum 200ml £27

I haven’t used a body serum before so wasn’t sure what to expect. I found the serum was really easy to apply and felt that it absorbed quite quickly into my skin which I liked. I have been using it mainly on my arms and legs and have found that my skin feels softer than it normally does even my husband has noticed!

Soap &Glory Eau De Soap &Glory Original Pink Perfume Spray 50ml £16.50

I loved the packaging of this perfume the box and the actual bottle. I really love the smell, it has a really girly smell, my daughter loved it too and said ‘mummy you smell pretty’, people at work also commented how nice I smelt when I wore it. I would really recommend this perfume as the smell is so nice and it has a great price point!

Boots Exacts Fairtrade Mini Body Butter Collection £7.50

I love these, I love the packaging and love the cuteness of the pots!

My favourite scent was the Almond body butter and found that all the body butters rubbed in well, I think the body butters would be great to take on holiday as found that they all moisturised my skin really well so would be great to hydrated your skin when sunbathing all day.

I think these make a great present especially from your little ones as the gift is cute in my opinion.

Boots have 3 for 2 Mix & Match across selected skincare, hand & body, self tan, indulgent bathing, No7 and vitamins

Pourty A Review and Giveaway

Nicola and I are both at different stages of potty training with Florence and Ellie. Florence is doing really well and using the potty all the time while Ellie is learning how to use the potty. So it was great to try the Pourty as we could see how it coped with the different stages of potty training!

We were sent the gorgeous purple Pourty

I was looking forward to trying the Pourty purely for the fact that it is easy to empty and clean. Potties I have tried in the past can be so difficult to empty that I dread empting it.

The claims

The brilliant new Pourty Potty is comfortable for boys and girls and much easier to empty and clean than a normal potty.

The Pourty potty won Best New Product to Market 2010/11 and is consistently rated 5/5 in potty reviews for quality, value for money and ease of use. Its features include:

  • wider flatter seating area which boys and girls find more comfortable to sit on than normal potties
  • high splash guard and deep bowl giving boys plenty of room while preventing pee escaping over the front of the potty
  • unique hygienic pouring duct in the back rest so that parent or child can pour the pee and poo out of the back away from where the child sits or touches
  • anti-drip lip to prevent unpleasant dribbles and mess down the outside of the potty
  • sturdier plastic than most potties giving toddlers and babies more confidence that the potty will hold them.

The Pourty potty is perfect for potty training children from 12 months to 4 years’ old.

What we liked:

  • The fun factor as the bright bold colour appealed to both Ellie and Florence
  • The ease of emptying and cleaning
  • The price at £9.99 it really is value for money
  • It is really sturdy so Ellie who is 16 months can get on and off the Pourty without tipping it over
  • Both Ellie and Florence are still using the Pourty as their main potty
  • Come in several colours : Pink, Blue, White and Purple

What could be better

  • Only have one niggle and that is with every potty I have used is that it is light enough for Ellie to pick it up after she has used it.

You can get Pourty online at amazon

One lucky reader can win a Pourty of their choice.

Yummy Mummy Changing Bag A Review by Sara

With Valentines Day coming up many a husband is thinking about what to get their wife. As a new mum it is lovely to receive a gift that you will be able to make use of within your new all consuming identity as a mother.

A fantastic gift in my opinion is a stylish and practical change bag.

I was very fortunate to receive a Yummy Mummy Changing Bag from Pink Lining to review (

Pink Lining

The bag arrived and I have to say when I got it out of the box I squealed with excitement. It was beautifully wrapped in pink tissue paper and was a really lovely pattern both inside and out.

The bag comes with a changing mat (which is really nicely padded and much better than others I have used), a little mirror (which to be honest I haven’t used much), a wet bag for wet clothes etc, two insulated bottle pockets and a variety of other pockets in which to store wipes, nappies and everything else you can think of packing. There are also pockets on the outside for carrying snacks / cups and little bits and pieces which are extremely useful.

The bag is quite slim and initially I was worried it wouldn’t hold everything I was used to carrying. Toby doesn’t travel light as I always need a load of nappies as well as a change of clothes, food, snacks,  cup etc etc etc. The bag is a bit like a tardis and holds loads of stuff! It was much easier to carry on the handle of the buggy than my old change bag as it is less bulky and I have to say I was very proud to have it on the buggy. It is girly but not so girly that my husband is embarrassed to use it and is pretty enough to not feel like you need different bags all the time. The outside is wipe clean and even after loads of use it still looks brand new.

I am now totally in love with the bag and would definitely recommend it to my friends.

The only down side is it is obviously a change bag. This isn’t and wouldn’t be an issue for me but I know some people like to have a change bag that looks like a normal handbag (albeit a large one).

Yummy mummy changing bags can be purchased directly from pink lining and have an RRP of £75. They regularly have bags on sale so its definitely worth a regular check of their site.

Big thumbs up from me!

GumiGem Review and Giveaway

I received this gorgeous Noel GumiGem to review just before Christmas.

Ellie is 15 months now and has a really annoying habit of pulling my necklace and my jumper to chomp on when I am giving her a cuddle.

My GumiGem is my saviour as Ellie is now chomping on the pendant rather than my necklace and I know it is safe.

Me being me had to see what it felt like on my teeth and I have to admit it is a really nice feeling and doesn’t have a taste which put me at ease, although when I wear perfume I am conscious of not putting it on my neck.

GumiGems are a great product for babies who are teething and also for toddlers alike and even Caitlyn likes playing with it when I am wearing it.

We have a Noel GumiGem to giveaway.

Just leave me a comment below to enter.

The giveaway will end 7th Feb 2012 at midnight

Ski Wear from Aldi

I am a keen skier and have skied every year except for those when pregnant, since I was 13 (now 27).

I have to be honest and say that although I am a complete convert to ALDI i’m not sure that if I saw the ski products in ALDI that I would give them a go. But as a willing reviewer at The Scrummy Mummy I gotta do what I gotta do.

I tried and tested the following.

Ski Socks – £3.99 per 2 pack

Aldi says-

Keep your feet warm and dry with these purpose-designed ski socks, which will help to protect your feet when skiing. With ankle and foot arch supports and a comfort rib top, they are just what your feet need. Available in a pack of two in ladies’ sizes 4-8½ in pink and grey or purple and grey and in men’s sizes 6-11 in black, grey and red or black, blue and red.

I say-

Very comfortable with additional support around the arch of the foot and padding on the shin. The padding proves invaluable as your shins really do get the brunt of pressure exerted on your legs during skiing.

Ladies’ Ski Jacket – £24.99 each

Aldi says-

Lined with fleece for extra warmth and made with breathable fabric, this jacket is every woman’s skiing dream. Complete with an internal pocket for mobile phone and MP3 player, a fixed hood and a snow belt with anti-slip tape, this will help you negotiate those tricky ski slopes. Available in purple and white in sizes S-L to match the Ladies’ Salopettes.

I say-

I liked this jacket I tried it out in the great British weather and it stood up to the chill. I tried it with just a long sleeve t-shirt underneath and I stayed nice and warm. I was sent a size small which was a bit too tight for me to wear comfortable with any more that one layer. I am currently a size 10-12 and so I would not recommend this size to any one that lingers between these two sizes. Definitely go for a medium. Also if you intend on buying the jacket for skiing don’t forget that layers make warmth rather than one bulky jumper so make sure there is enough room for you to put on additional layers if it gets really cold.

A great starter jacket as you don’t want to spend a lot on your first ski trip in case you don’t go ever again!

Technical Ski Gloves – £4.99 per pair

Aldi says-

These adult ski gloves for men and women will give your hands the protection they need when you are battling the elements on the slopes. These gloves are waterproof, windproof and breathable with a suregrip palm and Thinsulate lining. Available in assorted styles, including ladies’ Mitts, you can pick up a pair of ladies’ S-L or men’s S-XL.

I say-

These gloves were comfy and performed well in the British weather. However as i have been unable to try them out in the snow I can’t say much more than that. MY experience up to now is that cheap gloves fail when in very cold and wet weather when skiing. So if there is someone out there who has tried them out and can give an honest review please leave a comment.

Organic Monkey Review

We were sent Cheeky Monkey Organic Cheek Rub Oil and Rock the Cradle Organic Cradle Cap Oil to try out from the Organic Monkey range.

We have tried lots of remedies for the relief of of teething especially when Ellie was cutting 5 teeth all at the same time. Her cheeks look so red as though they were on fire!

cheekymonkey_cheekrub (1)

The claims

‘Cheeky Monkey’ Organic Cheek Rub Oil for Teething £7.50 (30ml)-made up of a soothing blend of organic ingredients combining Arnica, Sweet Almond, Olive and Sunflower oils with organic Roman Chamomile, Lavender and Spearmint essential oils to help calm and relieve.

We have had great success with the oil as it really calms Ellie’s skin and seems to make it look less angry. Ellie also really enjoys having the oil rubbed on her cheeks and I love the smell.

We would really recommend the cheek rub.

Ellie also has suffered from cradle cap since she was a newborn.

We have tried lots of remedies including using Olive oil but I have found that most cradle cap remedies have an unpleasant smell which led me to picking it!

Ellie enjoyed having the oil rubbed into her scalp and it seemed to make her sleep better as she was relaxed from the head massage.

We loved Rock the Cradle and would recommend it to our friends.

Both of the oils are £7.50 and can be purchased at
