Wen Sweet Almond Mint Review and Giveaway

We were sent a box set of Wen by Chaz Dave to review.

Picture 2386

Wen is an SLS-free range that consists mainly of a cleansing conditioner – this replaces the shampoo and conditioner, perfect for your typical man, but also ideal for your more metrosexual man who wants to look after his locks as well as all those in between. The cleansing conditioner cleanses the hair (and as it has no SLS, does not lather) and conditions it at the same time.

The range also has two styling products – a texture balm which can create perfect messed-up effect as it comes in a stick format  and a styling crème which helps with fly-away hairs whilst helping with moisture.

We really liked the cleansing conditioner, we did find it weird that there wasn’t any lather as you get so used to thinking that if there isn’t lather your hair doesn’t get clean however after using the cleansing conditioner it left our hair really clean and left it feeling great and looking shiny. The smell of the Sweet Almond Mint smell gorgeous and left our hair with the gorgeous smell.

We also received the styling products which both Gizmodad and I have been using.

The styling creme goes on really well and isn’t too sticky like some cremes I have used in the past. The texture balm was my favourite product as it leaves my hair smelling lovely and keeps it in the style I want. I also find with both products a little goes a long way.

You can purchase the products from Wen

We have been given 5 Cleansing Conditioners to giveaway. So for your chance of winning 1 leave me a comment below to tell me you want to be entered.

MÁDARA Firming Eye Contour Gel–A Review

Now that I am in my 30’s I have often been told that I don’t look my age, most people would guess my age at 25 but when I look in the mirror I have started to see fine lines. Something I notice is that my lines are around my eyes, I want to believe that the lines are laughter lines but I know I need to start using a eye cream.

I was sent MÁDARA Firming Eye Contour Gel to try.

The claims

This lightly textured and deeply hydratinggel helps to smooth out fine lines while firming the delicate eye area. Its natural formulation which includes the Baltic botanicals of cucumber, parsley, aloe and horse chestnut which help in reducing puffiness, dark circles and signs of fatigue.

Apply to your eye area on a daily basis, patting gently with your fingertips for best possible results.

I have now been using the gel on a daily basis for a couple of months and have really noticed a difference. When I put the gel on it is really cooling and feels lovely, it makes me feel quite relaxed.

What surprised me about the gel is that it didn’t feel greasy once it was on which has put me of using eye gel in the past.

The Firming Eye Contour Gel is £23

Repechage Sea Spa Mineral Bath Bubbles Review and Giveaway

I was sent a bottle of Repechage Sea Spa Mineral Bath Bubbles to review as part of our mummy me time feature. I have to admit that I very rarely get a chance to have a bath these days but when I do, I do enjoy  having a product that makes me relax, smells divine and makes lots of bubbles.

Since being back a work my feet really hurt and often my legs ache if I have had a busy day and I find the bath bubbles really help me unwind and revive my aching limbs. I really like the smell and it stays on my skin which I like. Gizomad has been using the bubbles too when he is feeling rundown and says it really makes him feel relaxed, he also likes them as they make really good bubbles.

What we like:

  • Smells divine
  • Makes lots of bubbles
  • I like the packaging it reminds me of the sea
  • Although I feel that it is on the expensive side at £19.50 I love the way it made me feel.

Aromatherapy Associates Renew Rose Massage and Body Oil – review

My regular readers will know that I have very very sensitive skin that reacts particularly badly to chlorine after swimming. I am trying to take care of myself a little better at the moment and rather than just put up with the awful dry, itchy and sore skin in particular on my upper arms, I have been trying to use something to soothe it. I was very lucky to receive a sample of the Renew Rose Massage and Body oil to review.

In general I am not a great fan of rose smelling products so I was a little worried that I wouldn’t like the smell of this oil but was pleasantly surprised. The oil smells very subtly of rose and you can really smell the neroli (which I am a big fan of) which stops it smelling too much like old ladies (no offense to old ladies of course). I have been using the oil after swimming but have also been trying to use it regularly after showering too. I really like the oil as it sinks in reasonably quickly and I have been complimented on the fragrance a number of times.

The oil comes in a lovely glass bottle (that looks wonderful in my bathroom) and has a pump style lid on it which make it easy to use without getting everywhere.

Since I was pregnant I have become an oil convert as they seem to last longer on the skin and go further too!

The claims:

An intensively nourishing blend of essential oils, ideal for improving the condition of dry, devitalised or irritated skin and effective in helping to protect against stretch marks during pregnancy. Essential oils tone, whilst evening primrose oil, which is rich in essential fatty acids, softens and smoothes the skin. This light oil is easily absorbed, improving skin texture and with noticeable softening results. Particularly recommended for swimmers, sunbathers and those whose skin is exposed to the elements.

Key oils:

Rose – euphoric, feel-good oil, renowned for its skin enhancing properties

Neroli – has a soothing effect, relaxing for body and mind

Evening Primrose Oil – with a 10% GLA content, has a highly moisturising and conditioning action: softening, smoothing and optimising the skin’s natural regenerative process

Apply daily, or as required, to treat skin for dryness and irritation or to help protect against stretch marks. Dermatologically tested and paediatrician approved.

Renew Rose Massage & Body Oil (100ml, £36.00)

Available at leading hotel and destination spas, worldwide. Retail stockists include Liberty (3rd Floor), Space NK and Fortnum & Mason. Mail order direct from Aromatherapy Associates on 020 8569 7030

or purchase online at

Although the oil is a little pricey it does last a really long time and so it quite good value for money. I think this is a lovely oil to receive as a gift or to buy yourself as a gift. The neroli really is very calming which is great for a mum and I suspect i will be in great need of it when I’m back at work!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Daily Moisturizer A Review and Giveaway

I am a nightmare for keeping to a facial routine, when I was treated to a facial the beautician asked me which face cream I use, when I replied that I use whatever body lotion is close by she was not impressed!

I was asked if I would like to try one of The Eight Hour Cream Skincare Collection, so I had a look through and chose The New Eight Hour Cream Intensive Daily Moisturizer for Face SPF 15. The main reason for this is I am not getting any younger and exposure to the sun does worry me so thought this was a good option for me.

The claims:

  • Helps to reverse skin dryness and flaking
  • Leaves skin luxuriously soft and smooth for eight beautiful hours

The Legend

Created in 1930 by Elizabeth Arden to soothe skin, Eight Hour® Cream Skin Protectant became an instant and overwhelming success. What made it so effective is a combination of petrolatum, a skin-soothing beta-hydroxy in one of its first cosmetic uses, and vitamin E. The apricot coloured balm was so beneficial to her clients, Miss Arden used it to soothe her famous thoroughbred horses’ legs. Even its name came about thanks to a remarkable performance – a loyal client used it to treat her child’s skinned knee and eight hours later the skin was all better.

What I liked:

  • Rubs in easily
  • Doesn’t feel greasy
  • Hydrated my skin
  • I like the fact it has SPF 15
  • A little goes a long way

There isn’t anything I didn’t like about the cream.

The Intensive Daily Moisturizer costs £28 from major dept stores

I have 1 Eight Hour Cream to giveaway, simply leave me a comment telling me why you want to win.

This giveaway closes 30th September 2011 at midnight. UK entries only.

Boots Botanics Men’s Range Reviews

It is often the case that when we are looking for a little pampering we forget that the men in our life might quite like a little looking after too. As a follow up to the products we suggested from Boots for Father’s day Toby’s daddy (and I to be honest) have been trying out a few of the products form the Boots Botanics for Men range.

Toby’s daddy is not one for using products other than your standard shower gel and deodorant and the odd bit of moisturiser if he is feeling extremely dry so it was not easy convincing him to give these a go but in the name of science (well, not exactly – more in the name of persuasion) he tried them out for us.

Boots Botanics Men’s Anti Ageing Moisturiser RRP £5.60

Daddy doesn’t regularly use a moisturiser but I managed to convince him to try this out while we were on holiday as it has a built in SPF. He is not yet in need of an anti ageiing product but as with most things prevention is better than cure! The moisturiser was a nice light cream that didn’t have much of a smell. It absorbed quickly and left his skin feeling a little softer than normal. It didn’t cause congestion and didn’t make his face look greasy.

The claims

Botanics Men’s Anti-ageing Moisturiser SPF 15 is a lightweight cream with SPF15 to protect against UV induced ageing and UV damage, protecting and hydrating for younger looking skin

Botanics Men’s range combines active plant extracts in carefully balanced formulations to give you the right product for your skin type.

Botanics Men’s Anti-ageing Moisturiser SPF 15 protects against the sun, a major cause of skin ageing while powerful anti-oxidants protect skin lipids against UV damage.

Botanics For Men Anti-ageing Moisturiser contains Ginkgo a renowned tonic of antioxidants shown to stimulate microcirculation and protect skin. Plant extracts at levels that really work, combined and formulated for unbeatable product performance. Naturally.

Authenticated by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Although this is a nice cream the results weren’t amazing enough for Daddy to bother to continue to use it! Although he may think differently when he starts to spot some wrinkles!

Boots Botanics for Men Face Wash RRP £4.60 for 150ml

A face wash is something that Daddy was more likely to use – I stuck it in the shower and instructed him to use it a few times. Although he usually forgot as he would normally just use the shower gel he did give it a go. The face wash had a lovely clean smell that although it wasn’t a particularly masculine smell, definitely wasn’t a feminine smell. The cleanser had an almost gel like consistency and felt nice to use. It didn’t leave Daddy’s skin feeling as dry as usual and didn’t cause any irritation either.

The claims:

Botanics For Men Face Wash Normal and Dry Skin is a refreshing cleanser which removes impurities deep-down, leaving skin feeling refreshed and revitalised.

Botanics Men’s range combines active plant extracts in carefully balanced formulations to give you the right product for your skin type.

Botanics For Men Face Wash Normal and Dry Skin is designed to leave skin feeling nourished and supple. Contianing Ginseng Botanincs Face wash gives your skin a multitude of benefits helping protect skin against damaging free radicals. Plant extracts at levels that really work, combined and formulated for unbeatable product performance. Naturally.

Authenticated by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

On the whole this was a nice product and it has stayed in the bathroom (which is a good sign) and does appear to be being used regularly so that’s a definite thumbs up!

Tesco Blossom Range Review and Giveaway (closed)

I received the new Blossom range to try from Tesco’s. I have to admit I haven’t used Tesco’s own brand products before so was keen to try them.

Tesco Blossom is the new exclusive pampering range from Tesco, which is aimed at mums-to-be or new mums, to ensure they have products to prep, preen and perfect their skin.

When I opened the big bag of goodies I could smell Peppermint which was a really nice!

I divided up the products between Katy and myself and we gave them a good testing.

I tried:

Tired Leg Spray and Foot Soak Crystals

The claims:

· Tired Leg Spray – This light refreshing spray with menthol and grapefruit extract to help cool and revive tired and aching legs and feet

· Foot Soak Crystals – Pampering and effervescent foot soak crystals soaked in peppermint oil and lavender oil to revive tired feet. The peppermint oil gives a cooling sensation and also fights odour-causing bacteria, leaving feet smelling fresh.

What I liked:

  • Both had a lovely smell
  • The Tired Leg Spray worked quickly and left my legs tingly after a hard day at work
  • The smell of the Foot Soak Crystals was amazing, I used it every time I finished work before my husband massaged my feet.
  • Really good value for money
  • Will be buying again

I also tried

Indulgent Tummy Butter – A rich and indulgent cream formulated with rosehip oil and vitamin E to moisturise and protect, helping to improve skin elasticity. The added seaweed extract helps to firm and tone the skin

What I liked:

  • Went on really well and rubbed in really well
  • Lovely smell
  • Left my skin soft
  • I even used it on my feet!

Katy tried

· Stretch Mark Oil – A smooth and rich oil formulated with coconut, grapeseed and rosehip oils to deeply moisturise and improve skin elasticity. It contains vitamin E to help minimise the risk of stretch marks

· Stretch Mark Cream – A soft and creamy formulation enriched with cocoa butter, shea butter and rosehip oil to help improve skin elasticity and minimise the risk of stretch marks. With added vitamin E for its protecting and antioxidant properties, it’s the perfect product for your skin in need of extra care

What Katy liked:

  • Loved the smell (which is unusual with her pregnancy)
  • She loved the cream version she said it rubbed in really well and was surprised it was a supermarket brand!
  • she has been using it everyday as loves the feel on her bump

Katy will also be trying the nipple cream when she has had the baby as last time she suffered really badly with cracked nipples when breastfeeding.

Radox Bath Smoothies Review

It’s lovely to have the chance to have a bit of time to yourself to have a bath. If this is a rare occurrence then it is nice to be able to use a luxurious product for your soak. There are many premium brand and rather expensive products available but many of us, especially us mums on a budget, can’t afford these products even for a rare treat.

Smoothies bath

I was really pleased to hear that Radox, a well known household name, had brought out a new range of bathing products. I was even more pleased to receive a sample of each to try out and review!

The claims:

Following on from the success of the delicious Radox Shower Smoothies range, Britain’s favourite bathing brand brings you a new bath time treat with the launch of Radox Bath Smoothies.

Radox Bath Smoothies has taken the natural products found in the Shower SMoothies and blended them into a luxurious smooth cream designed to deliver a sumptuous bathing experience that will leave you smelling good enough to eat.

Choose from three tantalising variants based on the Shower Smoothie Range; Spirit booster, Soul Soother and Tropical Tranquillity and create your own perfect bathtime.

Spirit Booster is a rich and creamy mix of yoghurt, cranberry and elderberry to boost body and mind

Tropical Tranquillity is a divine combination of coconut, crushed almonds and myrrh to indulge the senses.

Soul Soother incorporates chamomile, blackcurrant and cranberry to calm the mind.

What we liked:

Nanna Cez and The Grumpy Skier tried out the Soul Soother and said it ‘was absolutely wonderful’. The creamy Smoothie really left them feeling calm and refreshed and their skin soft and clean.

Toby’s Daddy tried out the Spirit Booster but wasn’t overly impressed – he prefers the more traditional Radox bath products as they are more ‘manly’. He didn’t like them but only because he felt they didn’t relax his muscles like some other bathing products.

Sara tested the Tropical Tranquility and liked it. She said it ‘reminded her of being on holiday’ and liked the smell it left on her skin after the bath. It didn’t affect her sensitive skin and she would recommend it to her friends.

Would be even better if:

There was a more ‘manly’ option for the man in your life.

Overall we liked the bath smoothies and think they are a really good value for money product. We would buy them again and recommend them.

Available from Boots, Superdrug and selected supermarkets, Radox Bath Smoothies have a RRP £2.99

Nelsons NEW Arnicare Bath & Massage Review

At the end of a long day at work or looking after baby everyone loves to have a relaxing bath although unfortunately we can’t always make the time to have a long soak rather than a quick shower. We were given the opportunity to review a sample of Nelson’s Arnicare Bath and Massage and so i made a special effort to put some time aside for myself to have a bath and a bit of me time.

The claims:

It is a unique dual purpose balm, pour just two caps to create a luxurious, lovely fragranced bath, or massage the balm directly into the skin to massage ease away aches. The invaluable natural properties of Arnica Montana will help to soothe and relax you after a tiring day. Calendula, Evening Primrose and Sweet Almond Oil naturally hydrate and nourish the skin whilst you enjoy the Lavender and Grapefruit essential oils melting away tension and relax the mind. Arnicare arnica bath & massage balm costs £8.15 and is available from Boots.

It really was a lovely product to use and did make you feel much more relaxed and your muscles soothed after using it. The fragrance is quite strong but I really liked it, it is not too feminine and really made me feel calmer and soothed.

The balm can also be used as a massage oil which was particularly useful for my hubby who is a mechanic and often complains of achy shoulders and back. Lucky him got a bit of pampering and he really felt a difference in his muscles afterwards.

What we liked:

  • Effective on relaxing achy muscles when used in bath and as a massage oil
  • Nice consistency oil to use for muscle massage
  • Nicely presented product
  • Wonderfully relaxing fragrance

Would be even better if:

  • It is a little expensive for a bath oil but the scent and the fact it is multipurpose makes up for the price.

Pampered Toes – A Review

I have been using pampered toes for the past month and they have been a god send since I have been back at work after my maternity leave.

When I first received them I wasn’t sure how my tiny feet were going to fit into them without my toes being stretched out of shape however my toes fitted in fine once I got the hang of inserting my toes into the holes.

What I liked

Really soothed my feet and made them feel refreshed after standing up all day at work with hot sweaty shoes

Loved the feeling when inserting my toes into them ( yes I am weird )

Liked the cool feeling on my toes

I also like the fact one size fits all

There wasn’t anything I disliked about the pampered toes.

Pampered toes are £9.99 and available at JML Direct
