Babymule–A Review

I have a changing bag fetish! Sara and I have been testing out the great Babymule changing bag. The Babymule is something very different to other changing bags I have used. It can be used and worn in lots of different ways and best of all Gizmodad doesn’t mind carrying it around with him especially in the backpack mode.

I have been using it out and about, I love the nappy bag as it is great for holding my cloth nappies and handy when I need to do nappy changes as just pull the nappy bag out, on occasion I have even just used the nappy bag when popping to my mums.

I use the Babymule clipped to my buggy the majority of the time but if I use the sling I use it as a backpack, I find it great using it with the sling, so many of my mummy friends struggle with their change bags when they are using a sling.

Sara took the Babymule on holiday with her as I raved about the bag to her and she found it came in really useful especially taking Toby swimming and to the beach. Sara found that the bag held everything that she needed for a day at the beach and also the Babymule had enough space in it to hold everything they needed for swimming.

The claims:

Babymule: wear it as backpack, sling it over your shoulder as a messenger, or clip it to your buggy. All straps tuck seamlessly away. 180degree zips mean no more rummaging, poppers and nets keep everything in place, 6 secure pockets to organise your things. Changing pouch, change mat, bottle insulator and dirty bag included.

Wipe clean luxurious fabric is water resistant and Babymule can even go through the washing machine (delicates) if it has been thoroughly soiled. Designed with padded back & airflow system, padded straps, gunmetal components, branded zippers and embroidered logo.

High quality fabric and robust manufacture means Babymule is built to last; from newborn through toddlerdom and beyond; enough room for siblings and parents’ things. Babymule is made for the growing family.

What we liked:

  • The design
  • The way it has different ways to wear it, the fact the straps are hidden if you aren’t using it as a backpack
  • That it will last from birth upwards
  • The different compartments
  • It is so different from other bags I have tried

I like everything about the bag, when I first saw the price I was a little shocked however using the Babymule it is worth every penny

The Babymule is £84 available at Babymule

Leapfrog: Fix and Learn Speedy A Review

In my search for toys for 1-2 year olds I was kindly sent a Fix and Learn Speedy to review. Our house is full of girly toys and I thought it would be refreshing to have a less girly toy.

The car has been fought over for a few weeks now as both Caitlyn and Ellie love this brightly coloured toy. Ellie loves pushing it along and giggles when it plays the tunes and speaks to her, while Caitlyn loves playing with the screwdriver and spanner pretending to be a mechanic like her Uncle Guppy.

Fix and Learn speedy is a great toy to encourage imaginative play and teaches shapes, numbers and letters, this has really helped Caitlyn with her shapes and because she is playing she is really involved in the learning. We are also teaching Caitlyn her colours and because the car has lots of colours it is really helping.

The car gives you different instructions depending whether the bonnet is up or down. Caitlyn really enjoys the repair mode where you have to turn different buttons especially when it tells her it is running out of fuel. She also enjoys the counting and alphabet when the lid is down.

The claims

Get on the fast track to fun with Fix & Learn Speedy! Children can learn about shapes, counting and more as they play with a car that will tune up their motor skills and fire up their imaginations!
Appropriate for children ages 18-36 months.

What we liked:

  • Good toy for both the girls
  • There are so many bits that you can turn, push and pull.
  • Lovely and bright
  • Good value for money

We loved everything about the Fix and Learn Speedy Car it is available from all good toy stores at a RRP of £19.99

Aromatherapy Associates Renew Rose Massage and Body Oil – review

My regular readers will know that I have very very sensitive skin that reacts particularly badly to chlorine after swimming. I am trying to take care of myself a little better at the moment and rather than just put up with the awful dry, itchy and sore skin in particular on my upper arms, I have been trying to use something to soothe it. I was very lucky to receive a sample of the Renew Rose Massage and Body oil to review.

In general I am not a great fan of rose smelling products so I was a little worried that I wouldn’t like the smell of this oil but was pleasantly surprised. The oil smells very subtly of rose and you can really smell the neroli (which I am a big fan of) which stops it smelling too much like old ladies (no offense to old ladies of course). I have been using the oil after swimming but have also been trying to use it regularly after showering too. I really like the oil as it sinks in reasonably quickly and I have been complimented on the fragrance a number of times.

The oil comes in a lovely glass bottle (that looks wonderful in my bathroom) and has a pump style lid on it which make it easy to use without getting everywhere.

Since I was pregnant I have become an oil convert as they seem to last longer on the skin and go further too!

The claims:

An intensively nourishing blend of essential oils, ideal for improving the condition of dry, devitalised or irritated skin and effective in helping to protect against stretch marks during pregnancy. Essential oils tone, whilst evening primrose oil, which is rich in essential fatty acids, softens and smoothes the skin. This light oil is easily absorbed, improving skin texture and with noticeable softening results. Particularly recommended for swimmers, sunbathers and those whose skin is exposed to the elements.

Key oils:

Rose – euphoric, feel-good oil, renowned for its skin enhancing properties

Neroli – has a soothing effect, relaxing for body and mind

Evening Primrose Oil – with a 10% GLA content, has a highly moisturising and conditioning action: softening, smoothing and optimising the skin’s natural regenerative process

Apply daily, or as required, to treat skin for dryness and irritation or to help protect against stretch marks. Dermatologically tested and paediatrician approved.

Renew Rose Massage & Body Oil (100ml, £36.00)

Available at leading hotel and destination spas, worldwide. Retail stockists include Liberty (3rd Floor), Space NK and Fortnum & Mason. Mail order direct from Aromatherapy Associates on 020 8569 7030

or purchase online at

Although the oil is a little pricey it does last a really long time and so it quite good value for money. I think this is a lovely oil to receive as a gift or to buy yourself as a gift. The neroli really is very calming which is great for a mum and I suspect i will be in great need of it when I’m back at work!

Hippy Chick Products Review and Giveaway

Toby and I have been really lucky to have had the chance to review a couple of products from Hippychick. Hippychick make it their business to discover and develop innovative and original products that are beneficial for parents and children.

The Hippychick Hipseat  RRP £39.95

I frequently carry Toby around on my hip – for short trips around the shops; for walking to and from the car; while I am hoovering; and most of all, Toby and I love to dance around the house having a good old boogy, but holding him on my hip for so long really does make my back ache. When we were offered the hipseat to review I thought it sounded really interesting and was excited to give it a go. I hadn’t heard of the hip seat but thought it sounded like a really sensible little invention. The design of the seat appears very simple but has actually been really thought through well. It is a belt designed to support your back and allow you to hold baby on your hip without having to push your hip out, it also has a little inside pocket in which you can keep a bit of money or your phone and it is also washable. I absolutely love this product and have used it loads. I generally keep it in the car so I can use it whenever I go out.

I really found the hipseat useful while we were on holiday this year. I would carry Toby from the caravan to the swimming pool (which was a bit of a walk away). Daddy didn’t like using it as much as he is not used to carrying Toby on his hip but he did find he could move it further round to the front of his waist so Toby could prop himself onto it. Sian is going to borrow the hipseat when she goes on holiday in a few weeks, particularly for use in the airport as she won’t be taking a buggy for Ellie and so will need to carry her around for some time.

The claims:

Our award winning Hipseathas been developed to allow adults to carry their children naturally on their hip without the usual strains on the back – it is ideal for babies and toddlers aged 6 months up.

The Hippychick Hipseat is a back supporting belt, with an integral padded foam shelf, developed to allow adults to carry their children naturally on their hip without the usual strains on the back.

Specifically designed to address one of the root causes of adult back pain, the seat provides a firm shelf for the child to sit on and supports their increasingly heavy weight from underneath. Instead of twisting the spine, the back stays straight and the child is tucked into the chest on whichever side is more comfortable for the wearer, providing comfort and security for both adult and child.

Special Features

  • Endorsed and recommended by osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists and health centres
  • Fits all sizes (extension available for more comfortable figures)
  • Fully tested by British Standards Institute
  • Removable lightweight seat
  • Simple, practical and easy to use
  • Secure inner pockets
  • Machine washable
  • Suitable for children aged 6 months – 3 years

What we liked:

  • light, portable and easy to use
  • can be used on the left or right hip
  • is adjustable in size so can be used by mum and dad as well as shared / passed on to friends
  • washable so easy to keep clean
  • Toby loves being held close and chatting to me on the seat

Would be even better if:

  • I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this product – the black one we tried wasn’t particularly attractive but Hippychick have released a new range of colours which solved this issue.

My Buggy Buddy Lock  RRP £8.95

BB lock and clip - product pair

When the My Buggy Buddy Lock arrived to review I wasn’t expecting it and when I saw it in the parcel I just thought – wow what a genius idea! Something so obviously needed! I’ll explain why: It really annoys me that I have to l have my buggy outside my local clinic – I understand the reason’s why but I would have thought that they would be able to provide somewhere a bit more secure than having to just leave your buggy outside in full view of the road.

There was an article in our local paper (I don’t live in a really rough area by the way!) about thieves targeting certain brands of buggy and so I just stopped walking with the buggy to the clinic and the last few times I attended I took the car which I feel is a real shame. If I had known about the My Buggy Buddy lock I would definitely have bought one!

It is so simple – just a metal loop with a combination lock which you can use to hang bags on your buggy and to lock your buggy to a secure railing if needed.

The claims:

The My Buggy Buddy Lock is an essential piece of pram kit and the answer to every parent’s prayers! Not only does it allow parents to carry bags on their prams safely and securely, just like the Clip, but in addition it has a combination lock. What this means that whenever you are out and about and can not take your pushchair with you, you simply secure it to a fence or railings using your unique combination code. With prams costing hundreds of pounds it is a brilliantly cost effective insurance policy.

The loop shaped device could not be easier to use. You have all the benefits of the Clip, along with the lockable security measure. Multiple bags including shopping bags, changing bags and handbags can be strung onto the loop before the clip is locked back in place, putting an end to the frustrating and potentially dangerous practice of steering prams with one hand while holding bags with another. Obviously common sense is required so that you don’t overload your buggy! The foam coating ensures that the clip doesn’t mark or damage your pushchair.

What we liked:

  • such a simple and useful little device
  • easy to keep on the buggy even when not needed

Would be even better if:

  • it came in different colours – black matches my buggy perfectly but I have friends who would want one in a colour to match their buggies.

As part of our celebration of getting to 500 fans on Facebook – our lucky readers have the chance to win a bundle of goodies from Hippychick including a hipseat in the new firecracker orange colour, a my buggy buddy clip and a my buggy buddy lock.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Daily Moisturizer A Review and Giveaway

I am a nightmare for keeping to a facial routine, when I was treated to a facial the beautician asked me which face cream I use, when I replied that I use whatever body lotion is close by she was not impressed!

I was asked if I would like to try one of The Eight Hour Cream Skincare Collection, so I had a look through and chose The New Eight Hour Cream Intensive Daily Moisturizer for Face SPF 15. The main reason for this is I am not getting any younger and exposure to the sun does worry me so thought this was a good option for me.

The claims:

  • Helps to reverse skin dryness and flaking
  • Leaves skin luxuriously soft and smooth for eight beautiful hours

The Legend

Created in 1930 by Elizabeth Arden to soothe skin, Eight Hour® Cream Skin Protectant became an instant and overwhelming success. What made it so effective is a combination of petrolatum, a skin-soothing beta-hydroxy in one of its first cosmetic uses, and vitamin E. The apricot coloured balm was so beneficial to her clients, Miss Arden used it to soothe her famous thoroughbred horses’ legs. Even its name came about thanks to a remarkable performance – a loyal client used it to treat her child’s skinned knee and eight hours later the skin was all better.

What I liked:

  • Rubs in easily
  • Doesn’t feel greasy
  • Hydrated my skin
  • I like the fact it has SPF 15
  • A little goes a long way

There isn’t anything I didn’t like about the cream.

The Intensive Daily Moisturizer costs £28 from major dept stores

I have 1 Eight Hour Cream to giveaway, simply leave me a comment telling me why you want to win.

This giveaway closes 30th September 2011 at midnight. UK entries only.

Now You Are One Book : Review

Ellie is 1 in 2 weeks and I have been looking for ideas on first birthday presents. I was asked if I wanted to review the now your one book and thought it would make a lovely keepsake.

I had to choose a photo of Ellie and give her friends name then waited for the book to come.

The book came really quickly

I was really touched when it came as the wording is really nice and it is so cute to see Ellie in each picture.

The claims

This first birthday book celebrates the many things a child can do now that they have reached the age of one. These include splashing in the bath, playing peekaboo, going to the park, clapping their hands, feeding themselves and crawling/walking.

There is a boy’s and girl’s version of this book and each activity is accompanied by an illustration featuring the child. There is even a Milestone Diary at the back of the book where parents can write in the date and details of when their child achieves different milestones. This makes the book a special memento of their early years, as well as a fun and engaging read.

What we liked:

  • It really made me smile, the pictures are so cute
  • A lovely personalised gift to keep
  • Caitlyn thought it was great seeing Ellie in the book and loved it when it mentioned her name
  • All family members loved it and thought it was great

What could be better:

  • The price is a little on the expensive side
  • It would be great if you could have different photos for each picture

Although I think the book is on the expensive side, I do think that it is a great birthday present for little ones.

Now you are one is available from at £19.99

Nuby Breast Pump – Review and Giveaway

I have now tried out a few different breast pumps and have got quite a store of frozen milk for Toby when I return to work. When the very kind people at Nuby said they would love to help with my quest to get Toby drinking from a bottle and/or cup I was delighted. As part of this, I was given the opportunity to review a Nuby pump and I thought it would be nice to get someone else’s opinion. My friend Ruth has been breastfeeding her daughter Sophie and has recently returned to work. She has been expressing milk for a few months now and was interested in trying out a different pump:

Ruth’s thoughts:

I have been trying the Nuby Natural Touch Rhythm Dual Action Breast Pump set (RRP £79.99). I was interested in comparing the ability of the electric pump and the manual pump settings.
I have an 8 month old and have been expressing since I began weaning her. I have also now returned to work so have been building up supplies to use in my absence and expressing while at work.
Using the electric pump was simple it started pumping as soon as it was turned on. It then has buttons to increase or decrease speed. The electric pump can also be programmed to express in a certain pattern but, I didn’t find this useful as I did not need the speed to vary. I did manage to express my usual amount and it was very comfortable but, I did find it took longer than normal.
It is easy to change it to the manual function just remove the electric top and attach the handle. The manual however is more hard work and I found slower than hand expressing.
I like that this pump set can be used for both functions so you don’t need to buy two pumps. I also found it easy to assemble and liked that it has less small parts. The electric pump is also rather quiet compared to most electric pumps. The pump set also comes with a cover to keep it clean which is a great for taking it out.
There is a small dial which works on both functions to adjust the amount of suction however , even on the strongest setting I did not find it strong enough for me. This may be because my daughter has a very strong suck and also because I have been expressing for some time.

Therefore, this would be good for those new to  expressing who may get sore and will need to gradually build up.
The pump does not have a ‘let down’ setting which would be one of the things that would improve this pump.
For those with perhaps younger babies or whom have not expressed before may find this pump more productive than I did. Those with sore breast may also benefit for the comfortable cup and being able to personalise the speed and suction.

The pump set can be purchased directly from Nuby and also from Boots.

The claims:

Efficient, comfortable expressing

· Helps combine breast & bottle feeding

· Memorises personal rhythm – fast rhythm to encourage milk flow & slow to express gently

· Dual action- switch between electric mains powered or one handed manual pump

· Soft massage cushion stimulates the breast & encourages your natural milk flow

· The adjustable suction valve ensures ultimate comfort, as it allows you to adjust the suction pressure of the pump to suit your individual needs

· SoftFlexTMneck ensures ultimate comfort

· Set includes:

  • 5 oz/ 150ml PP Natural NurserTM
  • 8 oz/ 240ml PP Natural NurserTMwith breast sized slow flow silicone teat, screw ring & hood
  • Silicone storage lid
  • 6 disposable breast pads
  • Manual breast pump hood
  • Manual breast pump handle

I (Sara) tried out the storage cups and really found them useful. The ones I tried were 3oz pots and these are useful for when I don’t manage to express much milk. I expect this will be the case quite a lot when I am expressing at work as my job is pretty stressful and finding the opportunity to express is going to be difficult. The pots are made of BPA free plastic and stack easily onto one another for storage. The pots can be sterilised and reused which is a real bonus. it would be really useful to have these pots when you first start expressing or when you start weaning and want to express a little milk for making baby rice or cereal.

The wonderful people at Nuby hare giving our readers the opportunity to win the Nuby Natural Touch Rhythm Dual Action Breast Pump set.

Shea Mooti – Review and Giveaway

Every mother or mother-to-be deserves pampering. I can hear you all agreeing! My pregnancy was really rather unpleasant most of the time – I have realised this more as I have reflected on it after having Toby. At the time I was so happy to be pregnant and so busy at work that I just gritted my teeth and got on with it. Whether your pregnancy was a breeze or was horrendous I am sure you would agree that a few little treats to make you feel a bit better would be very welcome.

Katy has an awful time with her pregnancies for the first trimester (and into the second) so when I was given the opportunity to review some products from Shea Mooti. I thought she would be the perfect tester.

We received two products to try:

Mama’s soothing leg and foot cream RRP £12.99100ml

Katy really liked this leg cream. It went on easily, smelt nice and absorbed quickly. She did feel that it didn’t quite have as much of a zingy chill as some other cooling leg creams you can get for use on tired legs but she enjoyed using it. It left her legs feeling very soft and less swollen and tired. She would recommend the cream to other mums.

The claims:

When I asked Katy about what she wanted me to say in the review for this one she said ‘Oh my god it was lovely!’ high praise from someone who being a beauty therapist is very particular about skincare products. She had been using the oil on her tummy and said it went on really nicely, didn’t leave her feeling greasy or like she needed a shower and left her tummy feeling really well moisturised. She did say that the smell was a little strange and she’s not sure she would have been able to use the oil while she was still feeling very sick but she would definitely continue to use it and recommend it to other mums.

Hamster Buggy Bags: A Review

As you all know by now, I don’t drive so I am always looking for ways to making my life easier when going out and about with a baby and toddler.

I was sent a set of hamster bags to try which I was really excited about as I get fed up having to juggle a pram and shopping bags.

I couldn’t fit the hamster bag on my Phil and Teds Explorer and was slightly concerned that whoever was on the bottom wouldn’t have a good view when sitting in the chair so I passed them on to Sara to try on her bugaboo bee.

It was a struggle to get the hamster bags to fit on the top part of the frame as it was thicker than the clips but Sara still managed to use them on her bee and found them really useful.

The claims:

Two clever bags that attach to both sides of your baby buggy. They keep your buggy steady so your baby is safer. They give you extra storage space for baby and personal essentials and shopping. Designed by a mum for mums… and dads!

Your buggy will be more stable

You’ll have more storage space

Not just one, you get a pair!

Inside and outside pockets

Reflective stripe to be seen

Free 1st class delivery (UK only)

What we liked:

  • Able to do more shopping
  • Not to bulky, they don’t make the buggy too wide when catching the bus
  • You don’t have to load up the buggy with the chance of it tipping backwards
  • The bags hold loads which really surprised us
  • Lots of people have commented on them asking where you can get them from

What we would change:

  • Have larger clips

Since reviewing the hamster buggy bags they have brought out a new style which now fits the bugaboo bee perfectly.

I am looking forward to taking the hamster bags on holiday when we will have a different buggy which will fit the older style bags.

You can purchase the ones we tried at mothercare for £29 or the newer style from for £29.99
